This is the fastest and easiest step before you try the other solutions. If the WiFi problems are still appearing after you restarted your Mac, try to remove login items and restart again. Login items is an application that will be opened automatically after login.
To avoid that, make sure you update the OS X to the latest one. We suggest you to back-up your data first, before upgrading it. After that, you can try to reconnect again by entering the WiFi password. If you are often changing the WiFi network and make a special location, ensure to reset it to the automatic settings.
2. Use Network Diagnostics
It will allow your Mac connect to the new WiFi network. The DNS Server address has to be filled with the correct address, at least the one that you find on the router. The Network Diagnostics utility will guide you through a series of questions and tests, ranging from checking your ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to network configuration and DNS servers.

If you have access to another computer or mobile device that uses the same Internet connection, check to see if you can connect to a website on that device. If not, you can at least rule out your Mac as the source of the problem and look elsewhere for a solution. For network problems that lie beyond your Mac, if you own or control the network device your Mac connects to such as an AirPort base station, Time Capsule, router, switch, or hub , turn that device off, wait about 10 seconds, and turn it back on again.
Wait for it to power on completely sometimes a multistep process that can take several minutes and try connecting again. If the DNS server your Mac uses is offline, slow, or faulty, you may be unable to connect to any site or service by name.

I recently changed internet provider from basic Virgin broadband to BT Infinity. So far as I can tell, this problem only happens with wifi - when I use an ethernet cable it works fine. Also, a friend has used her laptop at my place without any problem, so I think it must be something to do with my Mac though am not convinced it is a hardware fault as it seems to work ok when I use it elsewhere. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again. This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane.
